The synthesis of some biologically important xanthenes, by efficient and convenient approach for one-pot condensation reaction of aldehydes and dimedone or β-naphthol in the presence of lactic acid as an efficient, inexpensive and environmental friendliness catalyst under solvent-free conditions, is presented.
