This article sets out to encourage historical attention to the men who enabledwealthy people to keepand increase their fortune. In the twentieth century, the ultra-affluent had to rely on legal and financial experts in the management of their properties in times of economic and political crisis as well as in family conflicts. Furthermore, legal andfinancial advicewasneeded for practices of asset diversification on an international level. Despite their pivotal importance for the history of social inequality and its astonishing constancy, these hidden helpers open up a largely neglected field of historical research. Though these legal and financial advisorsmoved professionally in a rather masculine field of activity and were in this respect not a marginalised group, their transnational life stories have yet to be discovered as an eminent element of the infrastructures of wealth.
