Thoracic pain can be a disabling condition with many possible causes, such as osteoporosis, degenerative changes, ankylosing spondylitis, enthesopathy, rheumatoid arthritis, hyperkyphosis and others. When pain cannot be associated with a specific pathology, we are talking about non-specific or functional pain. The prevalence of thoracic spine pain in the population over 18 years of age is between 4% and 70%. In most of the cases of patients with pain in the thoracic region, structural pathology is not found and the primary cause is considered to be functional disorders. Due to the specifics of the problem and the impossibility to prove them with the methods of diagnostic imaging, at the moment there is insufficient literature data on their etiology, risk factors and methods of treatment. The presented literature review describes the functional disorders in the thoracic region, their clinical manifestation, and the place of manual therapy and the physical factors in their treatment.
