The purpose of this research is to examine the favoritism in the football. In this context, the reasons, sizes and types of favoritism have been revealed in the football. It also referred to the results of favoritism in the development of football and ways for reducing favoritism. The qualitative research was choosen for this research. Individual in-depth interview were used to collect data. The participants of the study consisted of twelve (old) referees. Individual interviews were held with these participants. Data were collected by individual interviews and analysed by content analysis. According to the findings of the research, the culture of favoritism is prevailing in the football. The referees may show favoritism in many decisions in the competition; such as foul, throw in, offside, yellow and red cards, extra time and penalty decisions. The referee managers behave favourably in terms of referee appointments, class promotion, punishing and performance evaluations. There are types of favoritism in football such as nepotism, cronyism, citizenship and partisanship. In Turkish society, widespread favoritism based relationships and social values such as being in favor of the strongness are among the reasons for favorable practices in the football.Favoritism negatively affects the success of the refrees’ institution and prevents the institutionalization of football. To reduce favoritism based relationship football is necessary to adopt the principle of merit.Extended English summary is in the end of Full Text PDF (TURKISH) file. OzetBu arastirmanin amaci, futboldaki kayirmaci uygulamalari incelemektir. Bu baglamda, futboldaki kayirmaciligin nedenleri, boyutlari ve turleri ortaya konacaktir. Ayrica kayirmaciligin futbolun gelisimi uzerindeki sonuclarina ve kayirmaciligi azaltmanin yollarina deginilecektir. Nitel arastirma yontemlerinden yararlanilan arastirmanin verileri bireysel gorusme yontemi ile toplanmistir. Arastirmanin calisma grubunu on iki eski hakem olusturmustur. Bu katilimcilarla derinlemesine bireysel gorusme yapilmis, verilerin analizinde icerik analizi yontemi kullanilmistir. Arastirmanin bulgularina gore futbolda kayirma kulturu hâkimdir. Hakemler faul, tac, ofsayt karari, sari ve kirmizi kart gosterme, uzatma suresi, penalti karari, gibi oyun icindeki pek cok kararla kayirmaci tutum sergileyebilmektedir. Hakem yoneticileri ise hakem atamalari, klasman yukselmeler, cezalandirma ve performans degerlendirme gibi boyutlarda kayirmaci tutum sergilemektedir. Futbolda kayirmaciligin, akraba kayirmaciligi (nepotizm), es-dost kayirmaciligi (kronizm), hemsehricilik ve siyasi kayirmacilik  (partizanlik) gibi turleri bulunmaktadir. Turk toplumunda kayirmacilik temelli iliskilerin yaygin olmasi ve gucluden yana olma gibi toplumsal degerler futboldaki kayirmaci pratiklerin nedenleri arasindadir. Kayirmacilik, futbolun ve hakemlik kurumunun basarisini olumsuz etkilemekte ve futbolun kurumsallasmasini engellemektedir. Futbolda kayirmacilik temelli iliskileri azaltmak icin liyakat ilkesinin benimsenmesi gerekmektedir.
