The intervention of human being to the nature exceeded the capacity of tolerance. Especially with the industrialization and the inrease in population, environmental problems reached global dimension and caused the disgussion and arguement of these problems in an international dimension since the second part of the 20th century. As a result of these arguments, it emerged that to have a sustainable environment people must have responsible behaviours towards the environment and the education must teach these responsible behaviours to the individuals. Therefore; the environmental education should educate people to have strong belief in restoration of the contaminated and destroyed World. The people with strong belief in coming against with the environmental problems which affect them; have a locus of; but the people having a weaker belief have an external locus of control. The aim of this research is to reveal whether the effect of the locus of control the primary students have or not; has an effect on their responsible behaviours towards the environment. In this research descriptive survey model was used. In order to determine the locus of control the students have or not; “Locus of Control scale”developed by Nowicki & Strickland (1973) and adapted to Turkish by Korkut (1986) was used; in order to identify responsible behaviours towards the environment “Responsible behaviours towards environment scale” developed by Erdogan (2009) was used. The study group of the research consisted 495 students at 4th and 5th grades. As a result of this survey it is revealed that the locus of control has an affect on the responsible behaviours towards environment and it is found that the locus of control significantly predicts these behaviours. We think that the results of this research will contribute to the teachers who practice the environmental education in primary schools and to the specialists who prepare the curriculum and the textbooks. Ozet Insanoglunun dogaya mudahalesi artik onun tasima kapasitesinin cok uzerine cikmistir. Ozellikle sanayilesme ve nufusun artmasi ile birlikte cevre sorunlarinin kuresel boyutlara ulasmasi, 20.yuzyilin ikinci yarisindan itibaren bu sorunlarin uluslararasi duzeyde konusulmaya ve tartisilmaya baslanmasina sebep olmustur. Bu tartismalarin sonucunda surdurulebilir bir cevre icin insanlarin cevreye yonelik sorumlu davranislara sahip olmasi ve cevre egitiminin de bireylere bu sorumlu davranislari kazandirmasi gerektigi ortaya cikmistir. Bunun icin cevre egitiminin, bozulan ve kirlenen dunyamizin tekrar eski haline gelebilecegine olan inanci yuksek bireyler yetistirmesi gerekmektedir. Kendilerini etkileyen cevre sorunlarina karsi bir seyler yapabilecegine olan inanci yuksek olan bireylerin daha cok ic kontrol odagina sahip olduklari; inanci zayif olanlarin ise dis kontrol odagina sahip olduklari dusunulmektedir. Bu arastirmanin amaci da ilkokulda ogrenim goren ogrencilerin sahip olduklari kontrol odaklarinin onlarin cevreye yonelik sorumlu davranislari uzerinde bir etkisinin olup olmadigini ortaya cikarmaktir. Arastirmada betimsel tarama modeli kullanilmistir. Ogrencilerin kontrol odaklarini tespit edebilmek icin NowickiS cevreye yonelik sorumlu davranislarini tespit edebilmek icin de Erdogan (2009) tarafindan gelistirilen “Cevreye Yonelik Sorumlu Davranis” olcegi kullanilmistir. Arastirmanin calisma grubunu 4. ve 5. sinifta ogrenim goren 495 ogrenci olusturmaktadir. Arastirmanin sonucunda kontrol odaginin cevreye yonelik sorumlu davranislar uzerinde bir etkisi oldugu ve cevreye yonelik sorumlu davranislari anlamli bir sekilde yordadigi tespit edilmistir. Arastirma sonuclarinin ilkokulda cevre egitiminin uygulayicilari olan ogretmenlere, ogretim programlarini ve ders kitaplarini hazirlayan uzmanlara katki saglayacagi dusunulmektedir.
