The digital age is inhomogeneous. There are several periods or phases of that age. In a first concept these periods are introduced. In a second concept abstract problems of GI processing are introduced to solve practical problems of the digital age. Additionally these problems are characterized by methodical geographical specialities. After this the two concepts are integrated in an example, where a train ride is analysed. The phases of the digital age and the contributions GI processing can make for a train ride are opposed. Finally it is discussed what can be done that GI processing can make a positive contribution to the digital age.
