The potential of the multi-temporal Copernicus Sentinel-2 data are investigated in the project CadasterENV (financed through the Earth Watch Program of ESA) to enhance the Land Information System Austria (LISA). To include temporal information in LISA the data model is enhanced using the conceptual data model developed within EAGLE (EiONET Action Group on Land Monitoring in Europe). The geometric reference within LISA are objects that are segmented based on orthophotos with 50 cm resolution and a normalised digital surface model. These geometric objects are further characterized using the first operational SENTINEL-2 satellite data with a geometric resolution down to 10*10m and a temporal frequency of app. 5 days within the latitudes of Austria. Different types of changes are analysed: state changes, cyclic changes and conditional changes. Whereas the first ones are typical changes observed also in current remote sensing applications, the second one (cyclic changes) refer often to management intensities e.g. in agriculture using a crop rotation or in grassland with varying mowing regimes. The third one is valuable for ecosystem condition analysis. For the latter detailed in situ-data will be acquired in 2016 by repeated field inventories in ecological valuable areas like bogs and mires, dry meadows or astatic water bodies. The results of this study will be used to further enhance the LISA products and foster the combined use of the national geodata infrastructure and Copernicus space components.
