The development of FPGA-based digital signalprocessing devices has been gaining attention. Researchers seekto reduce power consumption and enhance signal processingquality in these devices with given resources and spatial limits.Hence, there is a need to investigate both the capability and thepower consumption associated with the various digital filteringschemes commonly used in FPGA-based devices. We carry outa set of performance and power consumption measurementsof interpolation filters using an FPGA and other basic signalprocessing building blocks. We compare the signal processingperformance with theoretical prediction, and measure the powerconsumed by the filters. Our experimental measurements alsoconfirm the accuracy of the numerical tools used for predictingFPGA power consumption. This paper is aimed at providing aframework to accurately test basic signal processing across variousinterpolation schemes and compare the respective schemes’software-side contributions to power consumption and filteringquality.
