One of the strategic priorities of Russia’s development is to increase the life expectancy of the country’s population and a wider spread of healthy lifestyle practices among them. Achieving concrete results in this direction is impossible without positive “shifts” in the self-preservation behavior of the population. In this regard, the research devoted to the study of attitudes and practices of the population in relation to their health, become particularly relevant. The purpose of this article is a comparative analysis of subjective assessments of health status, attitude to it and individual characteristics of self-preservation behavior of the population of Russia in general and the Vologda Oblast in particular. The information base of the study consists of data from the national sample surveys behavioral factors influencing the health status of the population and the next stage of sociological monitoring of the physical health of the Vologda Oblast population conducted in 2018 by Rosstat and Vologda scientific center of RAS respectively. The results of the comparative analysis made it possible to identify both common for Russia and the Vologda Oblast patterns and specific for the region features. In conclusion, it is concluded that it is important to take into account the regional specifics of the population self-preservation behavior in the preparation of state policy measures in the direction of preserving and strengthening public health, prevention of its risk factors and promotion of a healthy lifestyle. In the Vologda Oblast it is important to focus efforts on increasing the medical activity of citizens and their responsibility for their own health, increasing public awareness on proper nutrition, expanding the range of measures to prevent alcohol abuse.
