portuguesA crescente utilizacao de redes sociais no Brasil tem aberto novos canais de comunicacao entre atletas e fas ao sustentar um dialogo paralelo as competicoes e aos meios de comunicacao tradicionais. Este texto busca identificar de que maneiras a quantidade de seguidores nos perfis oficiais de atletas olimpicos brasileiros nas redes sociais Facebook, Twitter e Instagram foi impactada por seus resultados e sua participacao nos Jogos Rio 2016. Foi desenvolvida uma metodologia baseada na teoria fundamentada que consistiu na analise quantitativa dos dados da evolucao dos seguidores nas redes sociais a partir de um conjunto de oito atletas olimpicos, divididos entre medalhistas de ouro, prata e bronze, alem de nao vencedores. Entre os dados apurados foi possivel identificar que o desempenho dos atletas nos ultimos Jogos Olimpicos impactou no crescimento do numero de seguidores em suas redes sociais, sendo o Instagram a rede que apresentou o maior aumento. Os atletas medalhistas de ouro tiveram os maiores percentuais de crescimento, mas a analise tambem mostrou que um medalhista de bronze e outro atleta sem medalha alcancaram o maior numero de seguidores, o que indica que nao apenas o podio alavanca a audiencia online. Os dados possibilitaram inferir a presenca de conceitos como a beleza estetica das imagens esportivas e a importância do agendamento midiatico, alem de permitir deduzir a existencia de outros fatores influentes no crescimento das redes dos atletas olimpicos. EnglishThe growing use of social networks in Brazil has opened new channels of communication between athletes and fans, sustaining a dialogue in parallel to competition venues and traditional media. This text seeks to identify ways in which the number of followers in the official profiles of Brazilian Olympic athletes in the social networks Facebook, Twitter and Instagram was impacted by their results and their participation in the Rio 2016 Games. A methodology based on grounded theory was developed, consisting on a quantitative analysis of followers´ data evolution in social networks from a set of eight Olympic athletes, divided among gold, silver and bronze medalists, as well as non-winners. Among the verified data, it was possible to identify that the performance of the athletes in the last Olympic Games impacted on the growth of the number of followers in their social networks, with Instagram being the network that featured the biggest increase. Gold medalists had the highest growth rates, but the analysis also showed that one bronze medalist and another non-medalist athlete had the highest number of followers, indicating that the podium did not leverage alone the online audience. The data made it possible to infer the presence of concepts such as the aesthetic beauty of sports images and the importance of mediatic exposure, besides allowing to deduce the existence of other influential factors in the growth of the Olympic athletes' networks.
