espanolEn este articulo vamos a analizar el significado y la finalidad que adquieren las menciones a autores ilustrados como Feijoo en el contexto de una polemica sobre la valia intelectual de los americanos desarrollada en la Nueva Espana del siglo XVIII. Como veremos, las citas no nos permiten afirmar que se de una asimilacion de las nuevas ideas, sino que son utilizadas para demostrar el conocimiento que se tiene de estas en los territorios americanos, una muestra de que estan al dia de las novedades europeas, convirtiendose en un argumento apologetico mas en el marco de una polemica. EnglishIn this paper we will analyze the meaning and the objective that the references to enlightened authors as Feijoo acquire in the context of a debate about the intellectual prowess of the Americans developed in Eighteenth-Century New Spain. The quotes dont show that an assimilation of new ideas exist, but these new ideas are used to demonstrate the knowledge about the Enlightenment in the American territories, a sample of americans intellectuals are up to date with European developments, becoming a more apologetic argument in the context of a controversy.
