Aim. In the respiratory tract of mammals several roles of the peptide endothelin (ET) -vasoactive effects, constriction of bronchial smooth muscle, prol~eration of several cell typeshave been indicated. In development ~ has been suggested that ET may participate in the maintenance of high foetai pulmonary vascuiar resistance and in the control of vascular tone in neonates. A~hough there is a general agreement about the production of endothelin by pulmonary epithelial cells, ~ is not well established which epitheliai cell typels is/are invoived in the genesis of ET. The present study focus in the detection of ETimmunoreactive cells in murine lung during adu~hood and development.
