エピタキシーに関する研究のほとんどは蒸着やスパッタリングなど,ドライプロセスにおける薄膜形成のものである。しかし,ウェットプロセスであるいわゆるめっき膜のエピタキシャルに関するものもいくつかある。それによると,素地材料が金属材料であるとき,めっき膜はすべてエピタキシャル成長をし,素地材料と結晶学的に何らかの整合関係をもって密着していることを報告している。これはめっき膜は金属材料そのものであり,素地の金属と金属結合しているからであろう。本論文ではそれらの整合関係と,界面の結晶学的な歪を調整するために現れるミスフィット転位や,ミスフィット双晶についても解説した。
