Manipulation of subwavelength objects by engineering the electromagneticwaves in the environment medium is pivotal for several particle handlingtechniques. In this letter, we theoretically demonstrate the possibility ofengineering a compact and tunable plasmon-based terahertz tweezer using agraphene monolayer that is deposited on a high-index substrate. Undertotal-internal-reflection illumination, such device is shown to be capable ofinducing an enhanced rotating polarizability thus enabling directionalnear-field coupling into the graphene plasmon mode and radiation modes in thesubstrate. As a result of the total momentum conservation, the net forceexerted on the particle points in a direction opposite to the pushing force ofthe exciting evanescent field. Our results can contribute to novel realizationsof photonic devices based on polarization dependent interactions betweennanoparticles and electromagnetic mode fields.
