We demonstrate experimentally the electro-activation of a localized opticalstructure in a coherently driven broad-area vertical-cavity surface-emittinglaser (VCSEL) operated below threshold. Control is achieved byelectro-optically steering a writing beam through a pre-programmable switchbased on a photorefractive funnel waveguide.
