The objective of the present study was to evaluate the physical and water quality of Mato Grosso Cerrado soils under different uses and soil management. For the study disturbed and undisturbed samples were collected at 10 locations in the South Central region of the State of Mato Grosso, contains four textural classes and five classes of soil. These samples were used for the preparation of the water retention curve and other physical attributes water and carbon in the soils. The S index was estimated from water retention curve, coinciding with the value of its slope at the inflection point. The S index showed variation between land use systems and has always been higher than the amount considered to limit the good physical quality of the soil. There was good correlation between the S with physical and water attributes analyzed, showing that this is a good tool to be used in the diagnosis of structural soil quality.
