The phasc microscopic observation of the hemocytes of thc common cutworm, SPodoptei'a litura (FAeRicius) yieldccl categorization into 7 classcs: prohemocytes, plasmatocytes, granulocytcs, spherulocytes, oenocytoids, podocytes, and granular plasmatocytes, Podocytes andi vermiferm cclls (JoNEs, I959) werc classlfied in the same class as the C`podocytes'', because they morphologically transformed to the same spherical cells with fine extensions during incubation. They did not have a character of plasmatocytes. Granular plasmatocytes, which have becn so far called granular hcmocytes, had the character of plasmatocytes, sprcadi#g on a glass slide. Oenocytoids lysed imrnediately at'ter bleeding, Total hemo,cyte counts
