A mild and efficient method for the synthesis of 3-methyl-1,4- diphenyl-7,8-dihydro-1 Hfuro[3,4-e]pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridin-5(4H)-one derivatives via one-pot, four-component reaction of aromatic aldehydes, tetronic acid, 3-aminobut-2-enenitrile, and phenylhydrazine is described using Alum as catalyst. The features of this procedure are mild reaction conditions, excellent yields, short reaction time, and operational simplicity.
