ロボットが日本の産業を支え、高齢者の生活を支え、社会基盤を支えるようになって欲しいという期待は大き い。しかし、我々ロボット開発者はその期待に答えていない。多くのロボットを試作してきたが、役に立ってい るのは自動車の製造ラインの溶接・塗装、電子回路製造のための部品実装機、各種製造ラインで部品を加工機に 出し入れするアームぐらいである。ここらで、過去の経緯を振り返り、ロボットへの皆さんの期待に応えるため の道を模索してみたい。 本稿は、まず、ロボットとは何か?これまで開発してきたロボットにはどのようなものがあるのかを振り返り、 今後普及するであろうロボットを分野別(製造分野・サービス分野・特殊環境分野)に挙げ、現状のロボット開 発の問題点、現場に普及するためのキーポイントを探ってみる。詳しくは、2012-2013年度日本機械学 会ロボティクス・メカトロニクス部門ロードマップ委員会報告 をご覧頂きたい。 結論を言ってしまうと、ユーザがこれなら使いたいと思うロボットを開発することである。また、使えるレベ ルまで開発を継続することである。そのためには、ユーザを含めたプロジェクト内のコミュニケーションと信頼 関係の構築、及び永続的な開発・改良努力が必要である。
