Palavras-chave: representacao social; risco; industria siderurgica. ABSTRACT: This article discusses the social representation of risk to employees of a steel industry. The proposed psychosocial perspective seeks to overcome the limits of the mechanistic approach that considers the risk mainly in terms of physical and probabilistic aspects. The survey was conducted in a steel industry by means of semi-structured interviews with managers and the use of questionnaire for other staff. The interviews were subjected to an automated content analysis, through ALCESTE® software, and the questionnaires were analyzed in terms of frequency of responses to closed questions. It was found that the study group understands that the behavior in a situation of risk can be crucial to the occurrence of an accident, but has poor understanding of the controls as determining factors for the categorization of risk.
