En The essay focuses on the portrait of Galateo that Cesare Brandi, a famous writer and art historian, traces in Pellegrino di Puglia, published in 1960. In this work, Brandi devotes a particular importance to the figure of Galateo, showing that he knows the masterpiece of the writer of Galatone, De situ Iapigiae, but also his other writings. Brandi is pleasantly impressed by some famous passages in which Galateo expresses his Greek pride and his aversion to the fate of Italy, at the mercy of foreigners. The result is an all-round portrait, in which the qualities of Galateo man and writer are highlighted, also adding some criticism and some pungent observations. It Il saggio si sofferma sul ritratto di Galateo che Cesare Brandi, famoso scrittore e storico dell'arte, traccia in Pellegrino di Puglia, pubblicato nel 1960. In quest'opera Brandi dedica particolare importanza alla figura di Galateo, mostrando di conoscere il capolavoro dello scrittore di Galatone, il De situ Iapigiae, ma anche altri suoi scritti. Brandi viene piacevolmente colpito da alcuni famosi passi in cui Galateo esprime il suo orgoglio di greco e la sua avversione per le sorti dell'Italia, in balia degli stranieri. Ne deriva un ritratto a tutto tondo, in cui vengono esaltate le qualita di Galateo uomo e scrittore, non senza aggiungere qualche critica e qualche osservazione pungente.
