Air inside of hexagonal honeycomb structural cells enhances the crush strength subjected to axial compression. In this investigation, air ejectment of honeycomb sandwich panel at different cases was studied by means of theoretical derivation and numerical simulation with CFD, in terms of compression velocity and open rate of cell. Dynamic grid and two-equation turbulent model were constructed. It has been found that with the same open situation, the air ejectment increases as the increasing of compression velocity, approximately linearly. Meanwhile, at the same loading velocity, the air ejectment decreases as the increasing of open rate. For a given honeycomb sandwich panel whose cell length equaling to 0.6mm, cell height equaling to 0.8 mm, when the open rate increases from 5% to 10%, the maximum air ejectment velocity correspondingly drops from 1.744 m/s to 0.769 m/s. All the attempts shield light on exploring the air ejectment and further enhancement contribution on crush strength.
