Iron, lead, zinc, copper, manganese, total chromium and cadmium concentrations were determined in dried activated sludge by an atomic absorption analyzer. The concentrations of lead, total chromium and cadmium were 2000mg/kg, 90mg/kg and 10mg/kg, respectively. The concentration of cadmium in the activated sludge was higher than the legal limit (5mg/kg) when the activated sludge was used as special manure. The major fractions of heavy metal forms in activated sludge were organically bound, carbonate and sulfide fractions. The water soluble and exchange able contents of zinc and manganese in activated sludge were higher than those of other heavy metals.(Received July 12, 1989)
