paper reports some phenomena on repression of lipase formation and stimulation of invertase formation caused by sucrose during pollen germination. The pollens of Pinus densiflora Sieb. et Zucc. were collected from the anther which was just before dehis cence, and after strage at -20•Ž for about 3months were used for the following investigation. Germination of the pollen was done by incubation at 30•Ž for 5 to 24hr on 3% agar containing or no containing 3% sucrose. Three grams of pollen were suspended in 30ml of 0.1M sodium phosphate buffer (The pH was 7.0 for lipase and 6.0 for invertase) and disrupted with a French Press at 400•`600kg/cm2. To the disrupted mixture was added 30ml of the same buffer solution, and stirred for one hr. The mixture was centrifuged at 15,000•~g for 20min, and the super natant was filtered through a filter paper (Toyo, No. 2). The filtrate was diluted to 100ml with the same buffer to assay invertase and lipase. Their activities examined during germination are presented in Figs. 1 and 2. FIG. 1.
