Current energy consumption trends lead to rapidly growingconsumption of local renewable energy sources. Suchinstallations bring new requirements on energy consumptionprofiles. Due to the massive multiplication of the results, oneof the most interesting elements of the power grid, in thisrespect, is formed by households. Smart profiling of householdenergy consumption may be crucial for the adaptability of theglobal grid. In this article, we present the design and usageof a demand-side, consumption profiling system named thePriority-driven Appliance Control System (PAX). We describe themain features of the PAX system and show its application usingreal-world data. The main benefits are presented as directeconomic assets in connection with various household energysources (energy grid and photovoltaic panels) and efficientusage with regard to government energy grants.
