Googleのようなポータルサイトはインターネット上の情報を検索するうえで欠かせないツールであるが電子ジャーナルなどの学術情報はその検索対象には含まれておらず学術情報検索における有用性は低いものと認識されてきた。しかしGoogleは近年学術出版社や電子ジャーナルアグリゲータなどと提携し従来まで検索不可能であった学術論文などの情報を新たに検索対象に取り込む活動を進めている。本稿ではGoogleによるデータ収集の仕組みを解説したうえでその学術情報検索における具体的な事例を紹介し学術出版業界や学術研究の発展に及ぼされる影響を検証する。
