T he boot-up o f the sw itch , based on the embedded L in u x system , includes BootLoader s ta rt in g , kerne l image load ing , L in u x kerne l boot and user space in itia liza tion . T he boot-up tim e d irec tly affects the performance o f sw itch o r even the entire tra in com m unication netw orks. T he boot-up process o f the embedded L in u x system and the m ounting cost fo r various f ile systems, e. g. JFFS2 and U B IF S , were studied. T he strategy fo r each process in boot-up was proposed to reduce the tim e cost. By re­ ducing kerne l ? replacing f ile system and op tim iz ing boot-up parameters ? the performance o f system boot-up was s ig n ifi­ can tly im proved. E xperim ents show th a t the boot-up tim e decreases fro m 26. 69 seconds to 7. 15 seconds? w h ich is re­ duced by 73. 2% .
