Background HIV-1 specific T cell responses induced by the MRKAd5 HIV-1 gag/pol/nef vaccine are highly variable, and human genetic variation is likely to play a role in the inter-individual differences. Contemporary genomic analyses make it possible to comprehensively assess associations of common genetic variants with phenotypes. We here combine whole-genome genotyping and HLA Class I typing results to provide a global survey of the host mechanisms associated with variability in T cell responses to the vaccine.
