Background The atrioventricular plane displacement (AVPD) is an indicator for systolic and diastolic function in the left and right side of the heart. AVPD accounts for 70% of the total stroke volume [1]. A reduced AVPD is associated with cardiac disease and aging. Manual measurements is considered reference standard in CMR. However, manual measurements are observer dependent and usually done only in the end diastole and end systole time frames, hence only the total distance can be computed. Timeresolved tracking allow the computation of AVPD as well as velocity of the AV-plane throughout the whole cardiac cycle, yet is time consuming. Automated methods for time-resolved tracking of the AVPD would reduce time consumption. The purpose of this study was to develop and validate a method that automatically track the AVplane in CMR images, using manually placed points in one time frame as input.
