Invasive measures of endothelial-dependent coronaryartery vasoreactivity predict cardiovascular event rates[1,2]. We previously demonstrated that endothelial-dependent coronary vasoreactivity (EDCV) can be meas-ured non-invasively by combining 3 T coronary MRI andisometric handgrip exercise [3]. Although coronary vaso-reactivity is likely a stronger a predictor of cardiac eventsthan similar measures in peripheral arteries such as thebrachial, there are several coronary MRI techniques in usebut no currently standardized protocol for non-invasivelyassessing EDCV. We assessed EDCV with 3 T MRI at regu-lar time intervals before, during and after isometric hand-grip exercise using two different cine pulse sequences,gradient echo (TFE) and spiral.
