Bacterial inclusion bodies are major bottlenecks in pro-tein production and are hampering the development oftop priority research areas such as structural genomics.Inclusion body formation was formerly considered tooccur via non-specific association of hydrophobic surfacesin folding intermediates rendering biologically inactiveprotein. Increasing evidence, however, indicates that pro-tein aggregation in bacteria is a rather specific event whichmight result in active inclusion bodies [1,2].
