Welcome to the Global Spine Congress 2019 (GSC). This year, AOSpine’s annual event is heading to one of North America’s most vibrant cities, Toronto. Known for its dynamic mix of tourist attractions—from museums to the world-famous CN Tower—Toronto is also recognized as one of the most multicultural and cosmopolitan cities in the world. The GSC is one of the largest gatherings for thousands of spine surgeons from all over the world. The event provides an outstanding forum to exchange ideas; network with fellow spine professionals; and learn about the latest research, techniques, and technologies in spine surgery. The GSC is unique in its approach to sharing knowledge and developing new approaches to the treatment of spinal disorders to help advance spine care and improve patient care. The Congress is open to all surgeons, spine practitioners, allied health care professionals, and researchers, and will offer a full schedule for four days. The scientific program will include pre-courses, AOSpine Symposia, Society Symposia, and peer-reviewed abstracts, scheduled to be presented as oral or e-poster presentations. Since the first GSC in 2009, the number of participants and speakers attending continues to grow. The GSC 2019 saw record-breaking numbers of abstracts submitted once again. In total, 1501 abstracts were submitted—a 36% increase compared to last year. This increase further indicates that the GSC is marked on the agenda of spine surgeons worldwide, and the rapid growth trend continues. The abstracts that were accepted to be presented at the GSC are published in this special online issue as a supplement to the Global Spine Journal.
