Careful reexamination of the published  1 H- and  13 C-NMR spectral data of (22 E)-24-methylcholesta-8(14),22-diene-3β,5α,6β,7α-tetraol (1), isolated from the marine-derived fungus Penicillium sp., indicates that, in reality, the compound is 5α,6α-epoxy-(22 E,24 R)-24-methylcholesta-8(14),22-diene-3β,7α-diol (5).
