This report deals with a metabolic study on a patient with diffuse osseous metastases secondary to carcinoma of the prostate gland. The patient was studied before treatment and during the first four months of estrogen therapy. The clinical course and the chemical, roentgenological and pathological findings in prostatic carcinoma have been extensively documented in the medical literature (1, 2). Since the fundamental work of Huggins and co-workers (3-5) the effects of castration and female sex hormone medication have been repeatedly described (1, 6, 7). However, to our knowledge, there have not been any reports of an evaluation of the mineral and protein metabolism of patients with this disease, nor of the effects of therapy on calcium, phosphorus and nitrogen metabolism.3
