Bwami is an association of political and religious character among lega and bembe societies, located in southeast R. D. of Congo. The bwami association has its origin in the traditions of lega and related groups. It exists both in lega and bembe territory and is founded on the same structural principles, but with significant differences in nomenclature, rules of organization and types of accessories and objects used in rituals of initiation.
