This paper describes the rationale for the design of the CORDIALL corpus, developed at the Nucleo de Estu- dos da Traducao (NET) at the Faculdade de Letras, Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil. It focuses on aspects of the construction and use of CORDIALL as a resource for the study of discourse and cognitive issues in an interdisciplinary approach drawing on insights from cor- pora studies, translation studies, cognitive studies, discourse analysis, and cultural studies.
