This master’s thesis proposes to observe and to describe the different ways of being and to be [being and self-presentation] on the social networks on Internet, having as strict subject the unknown authors that became celebrities on YouTube, making amateur videos in a vlog format –which means that they show their routine, creating or recreating their everyday activities or exhibiting their feelings, emotion, ideas and secrets to a diverse and unknown audience. I consider that each producer/author of this audiovisual format of video on YouTube brings a peculiar way of experiencing their life, with their own worldview, their ways of talking or being silent. They appear in a lonely stage, where the consequences of their acts are unlikely, uncertain, and unpredictable. In theatre of internet, they are sometimes acclaimed, others times ignored, disliked or criticized. It is worth saying that to be ignored, disliked or criticized could have a negative effect, but in this disputed place of exhibition and overvalued appearances, even a negative effect can contribute towards the “mediatic reach” of an user. For this, instead of hiding the problems they have, the users mentioned here use their failings to better reveal themselves to their spectators. These particular forms of being on the social media establish a different way of making use of new technologies and, consequently, a change in the modes by which their images can be seen; their effects amount to constitute a peculiar cultural phenomenon in contemporaneity. These new communicative practices of audiovisual production on Internet are focused here according to the methodology of metáporo – by which the methodologic value resides in a non-prescription of preestablished methods; rather, it values the liberty of a research that is based in the ways delineated by the subject of the enquiry – i.e, a moving self-presentation of existence on this new type of real and visual experience. For this purpose, we also recur to the ethnography of image and to phenomenology as researching practices aimed for sensitive descriptions of a subject that must be apprehended by the affect.
