This paper is devoted to the study of the stability of limitcycles of a system of nonlinear delay differential equations witha discrete delay. The system arises from a model of populationdynamics describing the competition between tumor and immunesystem with negative immune response. We study the localasymptotic stability of the unique nontrivial equilibrium of thedelay equation and we show that its stability can be lost througha Hopf bifurcation. We establish an explicit algorithm fordetermining the direction of the Hopf bifurcation and thestability or instability of the bifurcating branch of periodicsolutions, using the methods presented by Diekmann et al
