Several years ago the University of Missouri - St. Louis (UMSL) Campus Computer Center initiated a four year work-training program for incoming freshmen. The purpose of the program was to develop student assistants who could relieve the full-time staff of some of the consulting load. It was also intended that the consulting services could be expanded to serve students, who at the time were almost entirely dependent on instructors for assistance. The initial group began in the fall of 1975 and has just completed its second year. A second group has finished one year, and the class of '77 began this fall. This paper describes the program and the results of date.
