The input voltages, x and y, are each to be considered as capable of ~ taking on only two values, high and low, designated by the binary digits 1 and 0 respectively. Similarly the two supply voltages E 1 and E 2 are low and high respectively as indicated in the figure. The resistors R should be large in comparison to the forward resistance of the rectifiers and small in comparison to the backward resistance of the rectifier. With these points in mind it is possible to write down the responses of the two circuits to the four possible configurations of the input voltages x and y as shown in Table i.
