We present an open-source topology-aware hierarchical unstructured meshpartitioning and load-balancing tool TreePart. The framework provides powerfulabstractions to automatically detect and build hierarchical MPI topologyresembling the hardware at runtime. Using this information it intelligentlychooses between shared and distributed parallel algorithms for partitioning andload-balancing. It provides a range of partitioning methods by interfacing withexisting shared and distributed memory parallel partitioning libraries. Itprovides powerful and scalable abstractions like one-sided distributeddictionaries and MPI3 shared memory based halo communicators for optimising HPCcodes. The tool was successfully integrated into our in-house code and wepresent results from a large-eddy simulation of a combustion problem.
