The connection between discrete computational geometry and algebraic geometry is growing stronger. This interaction has been widely recognized by both communities (see [3], [9]). We have produced a videotape tha t presents an example of a major t r iumph of this interdisciplinary connection. We describe the solution, by I. Itenberg, of a famous conjecture due to Ragsdale. The solution is based on combinatorial techniques invented by O. Viro [2, 4] and uses properties of triangulations of point sets and the notion of convex triangulation (also known as regular, coherent, or weighted Delaunay triangulations) which are commonly used in computational geometry. At the same time, with this videotape, we celebrate the contribution of women to the advancement of research in geometry by remembering Virginia Ragsdale's role in the study of the topology of algebraic varieties. There are of course further interesting possibilities of research for computat ional topologists.
