Methodology In a survey of Information/Computer Science programs being offered in the N.E.U.S., 21 schools responded with a total of 32 programs. 11 of the 21 schools offer both computer and information science programs. Only 5 have stand alone I.S. majors. Of the latter 4 out of 5 had an obvious emphasis on business courses. The distribution across size categories was very even, as follows: Large:8 Medium: 6 Small:7 The total number of courses offered was: Large: 224 Medium: 187 Small: 129 Average: 28 Average:31 Average: 18. Curriculum -Breadth/Coverage The principal purpose of this survey was to evaluate the extent to which courses required for ACM accreditation were being offered and also to assess the difference in coverage and emphasis in information science as opposed to computer science. The following broad groupings of courses emerged and then were ranked from large to small. In both programs, programming languages constituted the largest group. Two catch-all groups for introductory courses and advanced courses were omitted, giving the distribution of courses shown below. Computer Science No Prog.
