AIl3STECACT In the highly competitive computer imbstryy the role of an organization’s applicant attraction strategy is important to its abiity to acquire personnel with the skills and rmmotivation required for operations. In 1980 Rynes and Barber developed a model for identifying the determinants of the mix of applicant atiacti~n practices which organizations utilize. The general focus of this study was tbe linkage between an organization’s bus-mess strategy and the inducements offered to applicants as part of its recruitment program. Survey data provided by 73 computer industry firms were used to test hypotheses. Statistical anmalysis revealed no support for hypothesized relationships between bus*mess strategy and compensation packages focused on direct salary and benefits.
