Many efforts have been made to inte- grate simulation technologies with other technologies sucl~ as database systems. Concurrent simulation is a technique that gains speedup by utilizing multiple- processor machines to parallelize simulations. Syn- chronization of event processing by multiple processors has been a challenge for researchers in the concurrent simulation community for many years. An increasing nurnber of concurrent simulations are now being built around database technologies that also require synchro- nization of database access to ensure correctness of ex- ecution. This paper describes how a temporal database can support a concurrent simulation that requires syn- chronization of distributed events and synchronization of database access. To integrate a concurrent simulation and a temporal database, the temporal constraint asso- ciated with database operations creates new concurrency control issues. A mathematical framework, including a new chronolizability property and a chronolizability theo- rem,, is developed to model the new concurrency control scenario. This paper and associated research serve as a bridge between concurrent simulations and temporal databases.
