“Relative precision” A/D andD/A converters are presented. They feature a limited signal-to-noiseratio but havea dynamic range of 13 to 14 bits.Thesecharacteristicsare achievedby usinga so calledRSD(Redundant SignedDigit) algorithmconductingto a minimal implementationcomplexity. Theelementsof theanalog part of theA/D converterand its digital control consumeslessthan50 Wat 2.4V powersupplyvoltage,whereastheD/A converterwith its track&hold circuit consumes75 W at the same supply volta ge.
