Automatic Natural Language Parsing is based on papers presented at a workshop in Essex, England, in 1982. There is nothing new and exciting, but there are plenty of interesting observations, ideas, and critiques, many of which I have not seen elsewhere (perhaps because two-thirds of the authors are British). The typical article is clear, chatty, and concise (less than 10 pages). As claimed, the book gives "research students and research workers" some "current views on the problems and techniques of automatic NLP". The focus is on research problems, not past progress, so this book is primarily of interest to specialists.
