We demonstrate that domain-wall type excitations carrying the fractionalmagnetization $S^z=\pm1/3$ and their bound state describe the low-energyphysics around the 1/3 plateau of the antiferromagnetic zigzag spin chain inthe strongly frustrated region. In particular we discuss the relevance of suchdomain-wall excitations to the characteristic properties of the magnetizationcurves: the 1/3 plateau accompanying the spontaneous symmetry breaking of thetranslation, the cusp singularities above and/or below the plateau, and theeven-odd effect in the magnetization curve.Comment: 6 pages, proceedings of SPQS2004, to appear in J.Phys.Soc.Jp
