Modifying the conventional antiferromagnetic spin-wave theory which isplagued by the difficulty of the zero-field sublattice magnetizations divergingin one dimension, we describe magnetic properties of Haldane-gapantiferromagnets. The modified spin waves, constituting a grand canonicalbosonic ensemble so as to recover the sublattice symmetry, not only depict wellthe ground-state correlations but also give useful information on thefinite-temperature properties.Comment: to be published in J.
