We theoretically investigate long-term potentiation (LTP) in the hippocampususing a simple model of a neuron stimulated by three different time-structuredinput signals (regular, Markov, and chaotic). The synaptic efficacy change isdescribed taking into account both N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) and non-NMDAreceptors. The experimental results are successfully explained by our neuronmodel, and the remarkable fact that the chaotic stimuli in the nonstationaryregime produce the largest LTP is discussed.Comment: 8 pages , LaTeX file, 4 figures include
